On Parallel Real-Time Security Improvement Using Mixed-Integer Programming

Network security defenses evolve, responding to real-time attack incidents, modifying the underlying topology, or reallocating defense systems across network. The present work emphasizes reducing time compute new optimal reallocations of systems, emerging remote attacks. proposed heuristic method utilizes parallel processing by slicing graphical model representing network solving in multiple mixed-integer programming problems corresponding created subgraphs, and producing an estimate defense. parallelized a enables response, real-time, before attackers compromise target machine Our prototype tool defense, high-performance analyzer, has speedup at least 20 over original problem using serial algorithm, with insignificant difference between performance (computed parallel) approximately (serially computed) A major conclusion is that further speedups will come from integer algorithms rather than graph partitioning.
